[edit] Spam

Just an FYI, we've been getting a lot of spam lately. I'm going to be looking into a plugin to help prevent most of it, so manual edits/rollbacks won't need to be done as often. If anyone knows of a good plugin for MediaWiki that does this, let me know.

This seems the best option: SpamBlackList. I also agree that logins should be required. As well as possibly adding a CAPTCHA to the registration process. Big-Pat Talk 19:40, 24 January 2008 (CST)
Hi Nick. I just removed the spam from the main page. The best way to stop spam on a wiki is to require a login. Shoot me a message if you need help setting that up.

Yeah, this is getting ridiculous. I'm going to make an overhaul this weekend and clean everything up, set up required registration, maybe even have a CAPTCHA during registration to avoid bots. I actually can't believe I didn't already have logins required for editing. Guess I must have assumed that was the default when I first set things up. Just to remind myself, I'm looking at adding this as well: CAPTCHA Plugin

If you do decide of go with a CAPTCHA, I'd suggest reCAPTCHA. They have a mediaWiki plugin and it actually produces something productive, it helps digitize books. reCAPTCHA Plugin Big-Pat Talk 16:44, 2 May 2008 (CDT)
Just wondering if you were planing on implementing any anti-spam methods. This place could become a great resource, it's a shame to see it go to waste. I've been using the SpamBlacklist that I posted above and I haven't gotten any spam on any of my wikis (and they run without requiring registration to edit pages). It really works well and doesen't get in the way of any legitimate posting.Big-Pat Talk 00:22, 2 November 2008 (CDT)
I Finally took the time to actually set up that SpamBlacklist plugin, so hopefully the bulk of our spam problems are over. In the meantime, I'm working on a new design for the site that should make things a little more visually appealing, so stay tuned!

It doesn't seem to have stopped everything. It seems this calls for more drastic measures. You should change the blacklist source the the one from Wikia. I tried this on a few of the pages of spam and it seemed to stop everything. See this and this If you need help with this you can send me an email [1] Big-Pat Talk 22:25, 7 March 2009 (CST)
P.S. It's standard wiki ediquete to sign your posts by typing four tildes "~"
Thanks for the heads up - I'll try and get things set up this week to see if we can finally keep the spam bots out.

[edit] QuattroWorld Wiki

Would you mind if I put a link to the new QuattroWorld Wiki at the top of the page? I've already added it to the external links section, but seeing as this site is rather dead I think it would be helpful to point users to somewhere that is more up-to-date.
